Cracker Barrel Announces $50M Deal to Sponsor the Entire Back Half of the Field
In an unprecedented move, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store will sponsor positions 20 through 40 for the remainder of the 2026 season.
LEBANON, TN -- In what industry analysts are calling "the most Cracker Barrel thing that has ever happened," the beloved restaurant and gift shop chain announced today a landmark $50 million sponsorship deal to serve as the primary sponsor for every car finishing 20th or worse in the NASCAR Cup Series.
The deal, officially titled the "Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Back of the Pack Experience," will see the chain's iconic rocking chair logo appear on any car that falls outside the top 20 during a race, regardless of team or manufacturer.
How It Works
"It's simple," explained Cracker Barrel CEO Sandra Turner at a press conference held, naturally, at a Cracker Barrel location off I-40. "If you're running 20th or worse, you're one of ours. We put the decal on during the pit stop. We take it off if you get back in the top 20. It's dynamic. It's exciting. It's a lot like trying to find the bathroom at a Cracker Barrel -- you'll get there eventually, but you're going to see a lot of stuff along the way."
The sponsorship will be applied via a specially designed magnetic wrap that pit crews can attach in approximately 4.2 seconds, which Cracker Barrel notes is "faster than our service on a Sunday after church, but we're working on that too."
Driver Reactions
Response from drivers has been mixed.
"I'm offended," said one mid-pack driver who requested anonymity. "But also, I love their hashbrown casserole, so I'm conflicted."
Another driver, who regularly runs between 25th and 30th, was more enthusiastic. "Honestly? My car hasn't had a real sponsor in three years. I'd put the entire Cracker Barrel menu on my quarter panel if they asked. You want me to deliver biscuits during a caution? I'll do it."
Multiple drivers from the back of the field were spotted at a Cracker Barrel the evening of the announcement, reportedly "celebrating" with fried okra and what one eyewitness described as "an unreasonable amount of pancakes."
NASCAR's Response
NASCAR released a brief statement calling the deal "innovative and inclusive," adding that "every position in the field matters, and we're thrilled that Cracker Barrel recognizes the value of the entire competitive ecosystem."
Translation: someone is finally paying to sponsor the cars no one watches.
The Gift Shop Angle
Perhaps the most ambitious element of the deal is Cracker Barrel's plan to install a small gift shop section in the infield of every Cup Series track. The shops will sell a curated selection of items including:
- Rocking chairs branded with "I finished 35th at Talladega"
- Scented candles called "Turn 4 Tire Smoke"
- A puzzle featuring the back half of the Martinsville field that is, appropriately, impossible to finish
- Novelty mugs reading "My driver ran in the Cracker Barrel zone and all I got was this mug and a really boring 4 hours"
What It Means
Love it or hate it, the deal solves a real problem: dozens of Cup Series cars run with blank quarter panels or obscure cryptocurrency sponsors that no longer exist. Cracker Barrel brings warmth, name recognition, and the promise that no matter where you finish, there's a plate of comfort food waiting.
As Sandra Turner put it: "Racing is a lot like eating at Cracker Barrel. It takes longer than you expect, someone always complains about the wait, and at the end of the day, you're just happy you made it through without anything catching fire."
Cracker Barrel's rocking chair logo will make its on-track debut at Darlington, where it will feel right at home among things from a different era.
